We’re Hiring!

Golden Hour Gear Repair is hiring a part-time Repair Technician (Sewing) in Southwest Harbor, ME. This position will perform all aspects of sewn repairs, including preparation (seam ripping, pinning, measuring, etc.), correctly configuring industrial sewing machines (tension, thread and needle size, presser foot selection, etc.) and sewing machine operation.

About the business and the role:

Golden Hour Gear Repair is owner-operated and is in our first year of business. We repair all kinds of textile-based outdoor gear, including down jackets, ski shells, sleeping bags, backpacks, tents, and more. Zipper replacements are our most frequent repair, followed by patches. You’ll be the first employee, with the ability to shape your work environment as desired: space configuration, supplies, processes, and more. This role would be a great fit for an experienced sewist who values autonomy, flexibility, and independence in their work; is committed to creating a high-quality product; and is familiar with using outdoor gear.

Required Qualifications:

· Experienced sewist, seamstress, tailor, or sewing machine operator

· Ability to produce high-quality sewing within a reasonable target time-frame. This target time will be established collaboratively with the business owner and will likely follow a “ramp-up” process – we don’t expect you to be as fast on day 1 as on day 100!

· Ability to give and receive feedback

· Preference for creative problem-solving over routine execution – repair can be frustrating and challenging compared to production sewing, but for a person who is drawn towards novelty and variety, it also offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of unique problems

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience repairing outdoor gear

· Experience working with technical fabrics

· Experience with industrial sewing machines

· Experience working in garment or outdoor gear production

· Experience working with alterations on existing garments or sewn items

· Knowledge of outdoor technical fabrics & outdoor gear

Job Details:

· In-person in Southwest Harbor, Maine – second floor workshop (must be able to climb stairs)

· 10 hrs/week, with the possibility to add hours as the business grows

· Flexible scheduling

· $18-22/hr, with a higher pay scale possible for a candidate that has experience working in outdoor gear repair or significant tailoring/alterations experience including technical fabrics

· Work that works for you – you’ll have a high degree of control over your work environment and schedule

To Apply:

Please email a resume and/or a brief description of your sewing or repair experience to info@goldenhourgearrepair.com. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
