We can repair and customize technical & outdoor clothing, sleeping bags, tents, backpacks, dog gear, and more! If it’s made of fabric and you use it to go outside, it’s probably a good fit for our services.
Some things we don’t work on: formalwear or ”dress” clothing, safety gear (including harnesses, slings, and cams), bikes, skis, reknitting sweater holes, or resoling climbing shoes.
Some things aren’t a good candidate for repair:
Delamination: the boogeyman of gear repairers. This is when the waterproof lining on a fabric starts flaking or peeling off. If it’s a small section — or just one panel on a backpack of multiple fabrics — we may be able to help. If your raincoat is more dandruff than liner, it’s TKO. Contact us about recycling or upcycling.
Still not sure if your item qualifies? Contact us!

YES! We love working on custom modifications that take the gear you know and love, and make it BETTER. If there’s something bugging you about your gear, we want to hear about it!
(Isabella once ejected a set of car keys into Somes Pond while paddleboarding. They were never recovered… but that belt bag now has in internal key clip. We get it.)

Repairs aren’t perfect restorations, but your repair will always match the quality, durability, and aesthetic of your item. Repairs can be subtle or a bold pop of color — that’s up to you!
-
We use the same high-end industrial sewing machines that are used in production facilities. (For the machine nerds out there, hit us up for a list!) These machines are purpose-built to create precise, durable stitching, even on tough-to-reach areas or heavy duty materials.
We are committed to high-quality finishes, like Gutermann thread and YKK zippers. We carefully source fabrics to match the fabric weight and type of your item — but please know that, due to supply chain constraints, we can’t always match the color exactly.
-
Long story short: the manufacturing lifecycle of outdoor gear. Outdoor gear brands work directly with international fabric mills, factories, and suppliers to access an incredibly wide range of colors and textures. These fabrics aren’t usually made in the United States, and are only available to wholesale buyers — sometimes with exclusive brand contracts. As a small gear repair shop, we don’t have access to the same breadth of fabrics as big manufacturing brands.
For this reason, we can’t always guarantee an exact match — but we WILL always provide a material with the right technical properties for your repair, and give you the opportunity to make your piece truly unique, whether that’s subtle or vibrant! When you receive your estimate, we’ll let you know what fabric we have available so you can decide.

Strong maybe! Whether it’s reknitting sweater holes (we’ll die on this hill: cashmere is a technical fabric), resoling climbing shoes, or something else entirely — if you wish we did it, drop us a line. Golden Hour Gear Repair is a community business, and that means that you, our community, can decide where we’re headed next!
